The coronavirus pandemic has changed our everyday life, but it doesn't need to change who we are. So, in addition to our ongoing coverage of the coronavirus, OnMilwaukee will continue to report on cool, fun, inspiring and strange stories from our city and beyond. Stay safe, stay healthy, stay informed and stay joyful. We're all in this together. #InThisTogetherMKE

Not a lot of folks are announcing that they’re opening new bars during the pandemic shutdown, but one family is.

The Creeds, who have owned The Newport in Bay View for more than a dozen years, have taken over the former Nino’s Tap, 3672 S. Kansas Ave., in St. Francis.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Tim Creed said that he and his brother Brendan and their dad Franky, "after 15 years of bar-operating-bliss in Bay View ... have decided to embark on a second adventure."

The new tavern will be called Creed’s Foggy Dew, which Tim says is, "a kind of tribute to our family, our Irish heritage and taking a bit of inspiration from our travels in the homeland Ireland."

Of course, it’s unclear when Creed’s Foggy Dew will pour its first pint of frothy Guinness thanks to the shutdown, but the Creeds are optimistic.

"(It’s) not exactly how we planned it – opening a new bar during a worldwide pandemic-induced shutdown – but we are as excited as ever.

"And hey, we'll have some time to do a little remodeling and polishing."

Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
