The Milwaukee Art Museum invites all families to celebrate the traditional Mexican holiday Day of the Dead, which brings family and friends together to honor loved ones who have passed on. 

"Family Sundays: Día de los Muertos" takes place Sunday, Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Here is the schedule of events:

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Families can create art together inspired by the symbols and traditions of the Mexican holiday; student artists from Carollton Elementary, Escuela Vieau and Notre Dame Elementary will display their artwork, including their own ofrendas. 

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Families can meet Wisconsin artists Gabriela Jiménez Marván, who will display cartonería skeletons; Richie Morales, who will show his vibrant paintings; and Yesica Coria, who will share her corn husk sculptures. 

11 a.m.  Dance Performance and Lesson with Alejandra Jiménez Marván

12:30 p.m. Story Time with the Milwaukee Public Library   

1 p.m. Drop-In Tour: Artists of Mexican heritage 

2 a.m. Latino Arts Strings Program “Mariachi Juvenil Grandes Lagos” 

The event is free to kids 12 & under, thanks to Kohl’s sponsorship. It's also free to members and Wisconsin K–12 teachers with valid school ID or pay stub. The cost for adults is $22; $17 for students, seniors (65+) and military with ID. Includes entrance to the art museum galleries.
