We know how to do winter in Milwaukee. We throw outdoor festivals and parties, we jump into frozen lakes, we carve ice bars and we ice skate – and when ice skating on normal-sized rinks becomes too standard, we make the rinks super small. That's exactly what the Milwaukee Public Market did last year introducing the Dinky Rink to Brew City – and now the big fun little rink is back, beginning this weekend.
Opening on Friday, Feb. 3 – weather permitting, of course – the Dinky Rink is a 770-square-foot rink that holds no more than eight skaters at a time, found on the north side of the Milwaukee Public Market complete with outdoor heaters and covered seating. Skaters must be ages three and up, and must bring their own skates. According to the website, while attendees are not allowed to use the Dinky Rink for ice fishing (for the sake of the rink and also because duh), there is a new ice curling feature added this year for bonus ice-citement.
The ceremonial first skate will take the ice at 10 a.m. on Friday with the help of the Milwaukee Admirals' mascot Roscoe, before officially opening up to the public for as long as the Wisconsin winter will allow. (So some time in, I don't know, May probably.)
To hit the fun-size frozen pond, skaters must make a free 90-minute reservation at the Milwaukee Public Market's website. Reservations are available during the market's general hours – which are Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. as well as Sundays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
