Summer is officially here! The sun is out, the temperatures are finally up, Summerfest is blaring, the classic festivals and block parties are dancing and playing the days away ... and this couch and A/C is feeling really nice right now. Don't worry: we see you – and so does Netflix with a fresh batch of new additions for the month of July, for when all that summer excitement can't quite compete with being lazy on a chill night in.
Remember "Bird Box"? That Sandra Bullock Netflix movie about a future where evil creatures kill you if you look at them and every human is annoying and stupid? That we all only watched because it came out around Christmas and what else were we supposed to do, talk to our relatives? Well they now made a sequel ... kind of. More like a spinoff with "Bird Box Barcelona" – and while I didn't love the first movie, I do do love alliteration!
As for other new Originals coming to the Big Red Streaming Monolith in July, there's a fresh batch of "The Lincoln Lawyer" and "The Witcher," a new documentary about Wham! and a doc series called "Quarterback" that looks like it's coming for "Hard Knocks" crown. There's also "They Cloned Tyrone," which is both exactly what it sounds like – some bad folks cloned a guy named Tyrone! – but also looks like a little more, remixing its sci-fi story with some blaxploitation style. Add in Jamie Foxx, John Boyega and Teyonah Parris, and we could have a fun surprise streaming summer hit here.
Elsewhere in July, while Netflix works on rushing out its inevitable (and inevitably bad) doc about the ill-fated Titanic submarine trip, you've got both a new Original doc about deep-sea diving called "The Deepest Breath" and the return of the James Cameron classic "Titanic" to streaming waters. And for more Oscar-nominated favorites, "Ray," "Pride & Prejudice" (the non-Colin Firth edition, sorry) and "The Squid & The Whale" will all take the Netflix stage next month.
Looking for laughs? "Bridesmaids," "Liar Liar" and "Uncle Buck" will silly up the streaming service. And for kids classics new and old, keep an eye out for "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" and the "Karate Kid" movies. (And also "Jumanji," but six-year-old Matt would argue that movie is too absolutely horrifying for youths. Six-year-old Matt, however, was also a coward.)
That's all just the start – so here's the full slate of new films and TV shows coming to the Big Red Streaming Monolith in July.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
