The story in Hollywood is still the roaring strikes, ongoing because the studios are too greedy to pay their actors and writers right, too scared to reveal their actual streaming numbers to the public, and too stupid to realize no one wants AI art. The work stoppages have been marching on for a while now – but average audiences will probably start actually noticing them now. Big-deal movies are getting moved – most notably "Dune: Part Two" – and the fall TV slates across the board look desolate, even on the streamers. If only there was some way to fix this situation. (*coughs* treat your workers like human beings *coughs*)
Luckily for viewers, while the studios let the well run dry, there still will be good fresh things to watch on Netflix in September. Well, maybe not fresh, seeing as most of the notable names are movies and TV shows of yore, but there are also a few new original gems hidden on the list too – such as new seasons of "Sex Education," "Virgin River" and "Love is Blind." (OK, "good" and "gems" are being a little loosely there with that last one, but it is fun!) The Big Red Streaming Monolith will also debut a muckraking doc about the Boy Scouts, a profile of the son of famed sports promoter Bill Veeck who may have an even more interesting story than his iconic father and a new "Spy Kids" movie. Because sure. And surprise, how about a new Wes Anderson short film!?
As for older material – aka the stuff keeping Netflix and other streamers alive; just ask "Suits" – September will be a treasure trove of flashback favorites ("Field of Dreams," "Jaws," "Fast Times at Ridgemont High"), comedy classics ("Superbad," "Miss Congeniality," "Anchorman") and outstanding Oscar players ("Arrival," "Fences," "Hacksaw Ridge"). Speaking of "Hacksaw Ridge," if that's not enough war for you, Netflix will also enlist the lauded HBO miniseries "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific." And for the complete opposite of war, the delightfully sweet claymation movie "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" will adorably bound its way onto the streaming service as well.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
