Music fans in Wauwatosa soon may have a new entertainment option.

A sign outside the building at 11302 W. Bluemound Rd. says, "Coming soon: The Baby Grand."

According to city licensing records, restaurateur John Picciurro has obtained a license for the establishment, which will feature piano music, drinks and appetizers.

Picciurro is a member of the family that has long operated Pitch's Lounge and Restaurant, 1801 N. Humboldt Ave., and Miss Katie's Diner, 1900 W. Clybourn St.

The 2,700-sq. ft. building that will house The Baby Grand, which is located west of Mo's Irish Pub and across the street from Guadalupe Mexican Restaurant, previously was home to Pitch's Club 113, which gave way to Greek Village, India Palace and, most recently, Delhi Café.

Picciurro could not be reached for comment about a possible opening date or details about The Baby Grand. There are several types of piano bars, though. Some feature only instrumental music, others feature piano players who sing. The singing piano players can lead sing-alongs with patrons or perform with another player in a "dueling pianos" format.

A few piano bars feature "open mic" setups, which allow customers to sing songs with professional accompaniment. (Imagine karaoke with live piano).
