It's already beginning to look a lot like Christmas – so why not already make it sound like Christmas too? That's apparently the thinking at Pure Oldies 106.9 WRXS FM, which today was the first local radio station to make the festive flip to holiday music. 

Beginning today and running through Christmas Day and beyond, 106.9 WRXS FM will be all holiday music all the time. And fitting with the station's name and usual programming the other months of the year, the seasonal selections will mostly stick to oldies favorites and retro classics. Today's opening playlist, for instance, featured familiar holiday hits like Bing Crosby's "It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas," Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" and Burl Ives' "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" in the rotation.

If this seems a little earlier than usual, that's because it is. In recent years, the Christmas switch got flipped by the three major festive radio stations – Pure Oldies 106.9, B93.3 and 95.7 BIG FM – near the middle of November. (The latter two have yet to either switch or announce their Christmas plans this year.) However, if the snow and slick roads can start earlier than usual, so can the Bing Crosby and Burl Ives apparently. Sorry, Thanksgiving.
