Zing boom tararrel, Barrel Burrito Co. opened last week! Located at 782 N. Jefferson St. – in the East Town space that formerly occupied Taco Bar MKE – Barrel Burrito Co. is a fast-casual eatery offering 11 different types of burrito and five house-made salsas and cremas.
The menu features standard burrito stuffings like carnitas, chicken, steak and birria, as well as radical burrito options such as the Korean BBQ, bacon cheeseburger and “The Spicoli,” a BBQ ribs/ Andouille sausage/ macaroni and cheese/ garlic roasted potato/ jalapeno burrito named after Sean Penn’s stoner/ surfer character from the film "Fast Times at Ridgemont High."
Veggie, vegan and seafood burritos are also available. A variety of beers, hard selzers, canned vodka drinks, sodas and Red Bulls round out the drink menu.
Burritos can be ordered “rolled," which is a grilled version of a traditional stuffed flour tortilla; “wet," which is a burrito covered in burrito sauce or queso fundido; “naked," served on rice in a bowl; or as “Burrito Bites” which are made from slicing the burrito a la a sushi roll and served with chopsticks or a fork.
"The burritos have influences from cuisines from all over the world,” says Director of Operations, Keanen Kopplin.
Customers can eat on-site, grab their eats to go by ordering ahead of time or through a third party delivery app.
The decor is a mix of surf culture from the 60s and 70s and co-owner Mike Eitel's love for beach and travel. The concept was inspired by the popular breakfast burrito at Nomad World Pub, also owned by Eitel. Eleven unique burrito concoctions later, The Barrel Burrito Co. is one to put on the must-try list.
Barrel Burrito Co. is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
